TRWA's Professional Development & Training Department offers specialized training on topics such as operations, treatment, regulations, maintenance, operator certification and management skills in both an online and classroom format.

Professional training provides opportunities for operators to upgrade their skills and improve the quality of their service. All courses, both online and classroom-based, are approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; therefore, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available to maintain operator certification.

TCEQ Licensing COVID Response

During this unprecedented time, TCEQ continues to review current policies and keep their website updated with the most recent information related to occupational licensing. This, along with contacting TCEQ Licensing directly at licenses@tceq.texas.gov, is the best way to keep informed, as the information changes frequently.

TCEQ encourages license holders to seek online training opportunities, when possible. TRWA is currently providing classroom-basedself-paced online, and live instructor-led virtual courses at this time. Please see our full calendar to see all current training options.

Expiration of Occupational Licenses
With the continuation of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis in Texas, TCEQ has extended the expiration dates of all occupational licenses expired from March-August of 2020 by 30 days. All licenses with other expiration dates are expected to comply within the original 3-year renewal cycle.

BPAT license holders whose licenses expire in March-December of 2020 are still required to obtain 24 continuing education hours through online courses; however, the TCEQ is temporarily waiving the requirement that eight (8) of the CE hours must be hands-on, practical skills training in order to renew their license.

Exams
In the interest of safety, paper exams have been cancelled until further notice. However, 28 Computer-Based Testing Centers (CBT) are openPlease contact your local CBT Center to find out their operational status.

NOTE: You must contact TCEQ at licenses@tceq.texas.govonce you have scheduled your exam requesting they extend your application expiration date. This extension may be for up to six months to allow you to test (equivalent to the period of time paper exams were unavailable due to the pandemic). If you do not contact TCEQ after scheduling your exam, your expired application will cause the CBT system to prevent you from taking the exam.
