TRWA Scholarships

Choosing the recipients of the 2007 TRWA scholarships was certainly no easy task. This year, six scholarships for $1,000 each were awarded to Kristen Brown, Megan Inman, Tayler Korus, Collin Kleypas, Rubi Reyes, and Lindsey Rogers. Two operators were also selected to attend operator training courses. Those selected were Ronald Garrett and Lynda Winfrey.

Student Scholarships

Kristen Brown is a May graduate of Iola High School, where she served as President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Student Council, and Secretary of her FFA Chapter. Brown will attend Texas A&M University in the fall, and intends to pursue a degree in biomedical sciences, and later enroll in Texas A&M’s School of Nursing .

Megan Inman graduated in June from Tatum High School , and will attend East Texas Baptist University in the fall. Among her many accomplishments, Inman has served as president and historian of Key Club, president of National Honor Society, and as team captain of her volleyball team. Inman intends to obtain her bachelors degree in biology, and has dreams of attending medical school. Inman is currently a Certified Nursing Aide and volunteers at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. 

Collin Kleypas is a graduate of Rosebud-Lott High School, where he served as senior class president, vice-president of his National Honor Society and as team captain for his Varsity football team. Kleypas will attend Texas A&M University in the fall to study mechanical engineering.

Tayler Korus is a May graduate of Poth High School , and has been an award-winning member of the band, the Beta Club, and has earned numerous honors UIL Mathematics and Literary Criticism. In addition, she has held a part-time job, and has taken several dual credit courses through her high school in preparation for college. Korus plans to attend The University of Texas at Austin , where she will pursue a career in nursing.

Rubi Reyes is a senior at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and will graduate in May 2007 with a degree in Communication Journalism. Reyes works for her school’s newspaper, “South Texan”, and has made both the Dean’s List and Honor Roll. In addition, she is employed at a Kingsville grocery store to pay for her school.

Lindsey Rogers is the valedictorian of her May graduating class at Spur High School . She was vice- president of her class, on the All-Star Cast of her One-Act Play, and active in Business Professionals of America, as well as FFA and National Honor Society. Rogers will attend Western Texas College and graduate from a University before pursuing a career in human resources, ideally in the water field.

Operator Scholarships

Ronald Garrett, an operator with Post Oak SUD, has been at his system for three years. He holds a Class B Distribution License, and will use the scholarship to get a Class A License.

Lynda Winfrey, Water Manager for Riverside Water Supply Corporation, has been with her system for almost a year. Winfrey currently holds a Class C Water License, and will use the training to help make upgrades to her system.
